Art + Extended Media

I live in a world where people find pleasure in controlling others. I make art to rebel against this control. Being a woman of color I’m pushed to the side by society when I’m a valuable component to the structure at hand. I found that I’ve always had to mold myself to fit to a colonized world and as I became more self-aware I understood that this need to conform was a form of control. I use art to tell the story through the voice of a black woman. I have been through tremendous hardship and I think it's important to showcase that hardship so that others can in return break from their own form of control. I tend to lean towards vibrant colors when trying to tell my story. This color palette is something that relates to my childhood. My safe haven was often my bedroom which was filled with vibrant colors and a place I could openly express myself. As I’ve become more self-aware I’ve understood that technology has also played a part in my process. My stream of consciousness is usually followed by using my phone to document myself in an act. That act is then translated onto paper sometimes including the digital device, which is equally apart of the process as my thoughts.
