Books are more than objects.
Books tell a story and allow the reader to inhabit a world. Like any successful design, a good book design will greet us with its cover; delight and challenge us with its content; and allow the content to stay with us long after it has been closed. Designing and laying out a book is more about supporting and sharing its story than anything else. The value is in how we can help readers connect with the content, and in this case, the students whose work is featured here. The range of ideas and emotions in this year's Vernacular feel all the more poignant as a testament to persistent creativity and a reminder of the inspiring Sage community that we are a part of (and will return to).
