Freshman and first-time students
Freshman and first-time students applying to a visual art program at Russell Sage can find everything they need on Sage’s First-Year Admission Page, including information on application procedures, tuition, financial aid, and scholarships.
Freshman and first-time student portfolios
All our Art + Design programs also have a portfolio review requirement. This can sound a little intimidating, but don’t worry. As a freshman or first-time student, you have two options:
1. If you have a portfolio that’s ready to submit, great! You can do so using the Slideroom link below.
2. If you don’t have a portfolio, or you don’t feel your portfolio is quite ready, that’s okay. You can still join the Art + Design department as an pre-art major for your freshman year. You’ll take all the same foundation courses the rest of the students take. Then, at the end of your first year…
Transfer students applying to a visual art program at Russell Sage can find everything they need on Sage’s Transfer Admission Page, including information on application procedures, tuition, financial aid, and scholarships.
All transfer students are required to submit a portfolio for review and acceptance into one of the three BFA programs within the Department.
What to Include in Your Portfolio
Students should present a range of work, not just work from their desired major. Examples include drawings (still life, figure, architecture, landscapes etc.), photography, painting, digital work, 3-dimensional work, and any work that shows original ideas, creative compositions and good craftsmanship. Students should not submit work that is derivative, copied or unoriginal.
Portfolios may be submitted online at sagearts.slideroom.com. Instructions are provided on the website. Students may alternately request an on-campus portfolio review by contacting the admissions office at (518) 292-1730.
