It is not just designing for Alzheimer’s but possibly reimagining assisted living facilities for patients from generationX and beyond. The design is reconfigured to fit the wants and needs for those targeted future generations. This was accomplished by bringing in the activities they used to know and love to do outside the facility. Growing up I often visited a family member living in this type of facility and the issues were obvious. Most of these homes are not meeting the requirements for Alzheimer’s patients because they are designed for the general population and not focused on their specific needs. Improving design features like personalization, wayfinding, materials, and community spaces will make the Alzheimer’s patients both happier and safer.
