Opalka Gallery
Sage College of Albany
As part of the Milton Glaser exhibit, In Search of the Miraculous or One Thing Leads to Another, join us for a discussion by former Glaser student, designer and food writer Celia Cheng. She will discuss working with Glaser, and how she developed her passions for design and food into the web phenomenon Cravings.
Celia Cheng launched Cravings in 2005 as a guide to satiating food cravings and to share restaurant recommendations. Cravings enabled her to combine her passion for dining, traveling, writing and designing. She has also been able to utilize her expertise and experience from her management consulting and online advertising background to develop Cravings into a full-fledged online resource. Celia holds a B.A. in Japanese Studies from Columbia University and an M.F.A. in Design from the School of Visual Arts. Raised between Taiwan and Hawaii, and having lived and worked in Japan, she is fluent in both Chinese and Japanese.

Student motion graphics in AIGA exhibition

Congratulations to GMD seniors Chris Galindez and Andrew Parkes for being included in AIGA's 2012 Get Out The Vote campaign. Their motion graphic work is featured on the AIGA website among other selections from designers nationwide.
Chris Galindez’s infographic titled, Effect the Shift, and Andrew Parkes’ video short were created with very different design styles from each other, yet both did a wonderful job at conveying the message of why everyone’s individual vote really does matter.

If you get the chance to go to New York City, the Get Out the Vote exhibition is at the AIGA National Design Center. The exhibit if from October 3rd through November 30th, 2012.

Prof. Hovendick's work at Everson Museum

The ongoing series Undetermined Measurements by Sean Hovendick and John Wesley Mannion has been selected by the Everson Museum of Arts' curator, Debra Ryan to be included in the biennial exhibition TONY: The Other New York 2012.
This exhibition held in Syracuse, NY features 63 artists in 14 different venues, showcasing the creativity of artists from Central and Upstate New York and surrounding areas. This is Syracuse's most extensive exhibit of creativity ever hosted in the city.
Working under the pseudonym AREA, Hovendick and Mannion conduct "interventionist performances" in various urban and public settings dressed in masks and contamination suits. Undetermined Measurements makes people suddenly question the safety of our environment, sheds light on the uncertainty of our public freedoms and explores the comforts people take for granted in everyday life.
