Our Facilities
Theatre Institute at Sage
The Theatre Institute at Sage is dedicated to providing quality live theatre and arts-in-education programming to the Capital Region while also providing opportunities for Russell Sage students as performers, technicians, and teachers. The Institute has two performance spaces on our Troy campus, the 620-seat Schacht Fine Arts Center Auditorium and the more intimate, black box theater-style James L. Meader Little Theater.
The Opalka Gallery
The Opalka Gallery is the formal exhibition facility of Russell Sage College. Located on the Albany campus, the Opalka’s primary focus is on modern and contemporary art and design from nationally recognized artists. An important part of the cultural life in the Capital Region, the gallery frequently hosts lectures, films, concerts, and other events in conjunction with its exhibitions. The 7,400 square foot facility includes a vaulted gallery and a 75-seat lecture/presentation hall.
The Little Gallery
The Little Gallery shows the work of faculty, students, and alumni artists. It is located in Rathbone Hall on the Albany campus.
The Tech Center
The Tech Center provides a wide range of services and equipment to the students and faculty within the Visual Arts department. Located on the first floor of the Art + Design building, the Tech Center houses a Mac lab, complete with small and large format archival ink-jet printers, Wacom Cintiq displays, scanners, a vacuum former, and a 3-D printer. The Tech Center also provides audio, video, and pen tablets for digital drawing for check-out.
Internships
Some of the places our students have done internships:
What is an internship?
An internship is pre-professional work experience related to your major. An internship enables you to connect the knowledge and skills you have gained in your coursework with real-world applications, gives you insights into the dynamics of the field in which you are working, fosters the development of professional skills, and is absolutely necessary for a strong resume.
An internship can also provide you with the answer to that age-old question: “What can I do with this major?” Finally, if your plans include graduate school, an internship can be helpful. Many graduate schools look for evidence of experience in the field and an internship can provide that experience.
When can I do my internship?
Typically, students complete their internships when they are in their junior year or early in their senior year.
Where are the internships located?
Many of our internships are located throughout the Albany area, but there are numerous regional, national, and international opportunities available. Students typically attend Sage as full-time students while working part-time at their internship location. Summer breaks allow for long-distance internships and can be a great way to advance your skills!
