Adrienne Gahl
Interior + Spatial Design
As an Interior Designer, I seek not to just make beautiful spaces, but to move people. To make a difference in their lives, whether that’s through aesthetics or through function. I find inspiration through wandering forests and spending time near water. I see the beauty in the simple, and recognize how it contributes to the remarkable. My aspiration is to make a difference to humanity; to help launch us forward into an era of green and efficient design, and to bring joy and ease to as many as possible.
VA Hospital Eye Clinic
When touring the Albany VA Hospital’s Eye Clinic wing, and while interviewing their staff, we found that their design issues lie in lack of storage, flow & organization of activity, and outdated finishes. To solve the problems, another exam room and treatment room were added, a larger and more central storage space was designated, there was an expansion of the optometry distribution center, equipping the entire wing with ergonomic, comfortable, and sturdy furniture, and implementing an inviting color palette that is complemented by greenery to feel welcoming to all veterans, guests, and staff.
Akari Hotel
Anna LeClair, Kylie Behan, Ciara Fountain, and Adrienne Gahl
Akari is a Japanese-inspired boutique hotel, centering around the idea of light and shadow. Akari gets its name from Japanese Take-Akari (tah-kay uh-kah-ri) bamboo lanterns; Take-Akari directly translates to “bamboo light”, so Akari is “light”. These lanterns are significant in Japanese culture because they are a representation of sustainability and celebration of the environment. The design of Akari creates a contemporary environment, implementing these ideas of nature and sustainability in a relaxing atmosphere. The hotel is geared towards nature enthusiasts and offers tranquility just beyond the edges of the redwood forests.
