Yorkmont Farm Retreat
The Yorkmont Farm Retreat was inspired by my childhood experience of growing up on a dairy farm that has been in my family since World War II. I had so much fun growing up on a farm, getting to play with all the animals and exploring the outdoors. As I grew older, I started to realize the struggles farmers around my town were facing, I watched them make the painful decision to sell their farms because they simply could not afford to keep going. I also began to realize the way my peers made judgements about me and my family because we were farmers. Although my father tried to hide his struggles from me, I could tell he was fighting tirelessly to keep our farm intact. The farm was put up for sale multiple times against his will, but my dad refused to give it up. Yorkmont Farm Retreat represents the future of farming and how farms can survive today. The goal being to break the stereotypes that are associated with farmers and allow for people to see the benefit of supporting local farms.
