Interior + Spatial Design

The reason I chose to do my final project on Pediatric Oncology and Hematology is because of my sister. She is a nurse at Albany MedicalCenter in the Pediatrics unit. She often relays stories to me about the conditions of her unit and how it can negatively affect the patient’s treatment. While doing my research on this project, I got to tour the unit where my sister works. I saw that the unit was outdated, and the overall design and efficiency of the space were overlooked. Through my continued research, I gathered that there was a base level design when it came to designing for children. The majority of the designs I found had bright colors that outdated the design. As a designer, I like to use calming natural materials with a modern approach. My overall goal for this design was to create an environment in which allows the children to seamlessly receive inpatient care while minimally disrupting the stability within their day to day activities will be imperative to their healing.
