Aaron Draplin of Draplin Design Co., Portland, OR spoke to a packed house at the Sage College of Albany April 22. Sage Graphic + Media Design students met Draplin in Minneapolis last fall at the AIGA National Conference and the AIGA Student Group arranged for Draplin’s talk. Draplin’s direct, in-your-face messaging resonated with the standing-room-only crowd at the Opalka Gallery. He encouraged attendees to “get out there and get dirty,” (aka make a lot of work) and demonstrated how he does just that everyday. Earlier in the day Draplin presented a special student-only presentation for all Graphic + Media Design majors where he shared personal stories and discussed his process. Many Sage design alums were in attendance at the talk as well, including Christina Lang, Michael Rivette, Heather Ringler, Kat Dahlgren and Tim Nerney.
